The administration has announced their intention to enter places of worship in search of illegal immigrants.

The idea ‘Love thy neighbor’ lies near the heart of Christian,Buddhist and Moslem teachings. It is central to  Quaker belief.  Beyond that, many Friends think that you cannot fully experience the divine in a vacuum.  Our community contains that of the divine in it.

Friends Meetings across the country have objected to this kind of action as an infringement on their practice of our religion.  We cannot worship in peace under this kind of threat.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting,New England Yearly Meeting,Baltimore Yearly Meeting filed suit in Federal court seeking  to enjoin this infringement on our religion.  Yesterday, Intermountain Yearly Meeting  Joined in support of the suit.

Agate Passage Friends will be discussing and seeking clarity on this matter at our next  meeting for business  on February 16.

The World We Seek is one with equity and justice for all, one that recognizes that of God in every human being. This belief calls us to uphold the inherent value and agency of all, regardless of migration status, race, or nationality. A just future includes crafting immigration policies that honor the invaluable contribution of immigrants throughout our history and ensure the humane treatment of newcomers, protection from mass detention and deportation, as well as pathways to citizenship for long-standing immigrant communities.
